Just finished reading this heart-rending book. We need more African voices in our canon! • I met NoViolet Bulawayo at @jaipurlitfest earlier this year and I was blown away by her erudition, patience, kindness and dedication to her art. There is so much to learn from writers of novels we wouldn't hear of in schools. • Who was the last African writer you read? Which country was he or she or they from? • . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #bibliophile #bookstagramindia #bookstagramindia #bloggersofinstagram #indianbookbloggers #bookblogger #bookbloggers #africanwriting #africannovels #weneednewnames #📚
This tribute to my dad was written in response to the third prompt for #NaPoWriMo meant for April 3. I missed out on it due to a hectic day, so here it is. Better late than never, right? • The second picture is him with my cousin, when he was in the last stages of the disease, about 4 months before he passed away. • Love you and needing your guidance always, dad. • #napowrimoindia #NaPoWriMo2019 #indianpoetry #poetsofindia #poetsofinstagram #poetrycommunity #spilledink #textpost
Day 4 of #NaPoWriMo and I've taken on a prompt by @harnidhk : "Imagine you could bottle sunshine. What would you taste if you had a sip?" • I'm ALSO posting this series simultaneously to my blog! Words in Manipal Humanities Centre's biennial journal, Chaicopy! SWIPE to read. • The issue is very well edited and is out online, for free, NOW. • 'Woman' is one of my favourite poems and I love it so much. I'm so glad I could begin my journey with this wonderful journal with it. • #poetsofindia #poetsofinstagram #poetsofcolor #poet #poetrycommunity #nationalpoetrymonth #NaPoWriMo2019 #napowrimo #spilledink #writerscommunity #indianpoets #indianpoetry #instapoetry #bibliophile #versophile
Guys, #napowrimo has begun! The goal is to write one poem a day on a specific prompt given by National Poetry Writing Month, the annual international creative project. • Prompt #1 is, "Write poems that provide the reader with instructions on how to do something." • It happened to line up with a poem I had written several years ago that our favourite Mohona Di from Art of Misanthropy had illustrated. • I hope you like the poem. Happy reading! #SpiktinotxNaPoWriMo #NaPoWriMo2019 #poetsofcolor #poetsofinstagram #poetsofindia #indianpoets #indianpoetsociety #indianpoetry #indianpoetrycommunity #writersofinstagram #writerscommunity #spilledink #spilledinkpoetry #artwithheart
My first ever poetry reading 🌸 • I've called myself a poet since I was six and it was at 23 that I finally had a proper poetry reading, with an audience. I read a poem dedicated to my father, called Aleppo, and another about bleeding, called Woman. • Thank you, @theaklf and @thehuewoman , for the opportunity! Here's to so many more to come.
